Healthcare organizations tap various EMR Software implementations to integrate a robust software solution into daily workflows. The implementation aims to streamline clinical, administrative, and financial tasks or enhance interoperability options or patient safety.

Connecticut Children’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at UConn Health will tap  Epic EHR implementation to streamline clinical documentation for improved patient safety. NICU at UConn Health couldn’t integrate with UConn Health’s initial Epic EMR Software implementation in the year 2018, and as a result, used traditional paper documentation since then.

Benefits of Epic EHR software implementation

The implementation of Epic EMR software aims to boost patient safety by offering healthcare providers to access patient information and imaging in one place.

The system will also provide a seamless connection to Epic’s interoperability platform, which enables clinicians at UConn Health and NICU to have real-time access to the EHR. Interoperability will allow providers to stay connected, view patient records to support their decision-making process. Accurate decision-making in the patient treatment process can improve health outcome levels. Better interoperability makes way for care coordination for high-quality patient care.

Patient benefits from MyChart Patient Portal

The integration will not only benefit clinicians but also have benefits for patients through the Epic MyChart patient portal software platform. The robust platform will allow patients to communicate with the providers round the clock and also enable them to access health information. MyChart also has features of scheduling and an eCheck-in facility. By empowering guardians of young patients they can feel empowered and stay connected throughout their child’s care process.

Epic EHR training

Training to use the EMR software solution is in progress for all care team members including, lactation nurses, respiratory therapists, pharmacy employees, dieticians, and speech therapists. Role-specific training will occur till the 21st of June. The EHR training is important to make sure everyone is hands-on using the new software system and can also improve EHR user satisfaction rates. There will be 24/7 on-call support available to combat any issues so the providers can make the most out of their Epic EHR Software system.
